It is fun to see how Ling and Ting navigate the same situations as well as different ones and I hope that Lin will grace us with more of their adventures in the future! As always, the shelves need more solidly readable, thoroughly entertaining, thoughtfully written and illustrated beginning to read books. While Ling and Ting are not so much the cut-up and straight man the way Dodsworth and duck are, nor are they the worrier and the soother the way Frog and Toad can be, they are two realistic children with realistic interests and concerns who bring a little something extra to their stories by being twins and presumably similar in all ways. The decades-long US-Saudi alliance didn’t mean much to Trump and his deputies, and many of the old officials who kept that alliance going for both sides, men like Mohammed bin Nayef and former CIA director John Brennan, had been sent off to retirement, or worse. But as Trump showed Mohammed in that embarrassing White House visit, when the president displayed a poster board showing arms sales to the kingdom, this new White House was purely transactional. Mohammed had high hopes that Donald Trump, with his visit to the kingdom early in his presidency, would renew the kind of relationship Saudi Arabia had under previous presidents. As this legendary story entered the annals of polar exploration, it inspired a new global race to find the wrecked Endurance, by all accounts “the world’s most unreachable shipwreck.” Several missions failed, thwarted, as Shackleton was, by the unpredictable Weddell Sea. Seal meat was their only sustenance as Shackleton’s expedition to push the limits of human strength took a new one of survival against the odds. They watched in silence as the ship’s stern rose twenty feet in the air and disappeared into the frigid sea, then spent six harrowing months marooned on the ice in its wake. Ernest Shackleton and his crew had navigated the 144-foot, three-masted wooden vessel to Antarctica to become the first to cross the barren continent, but early season pack ice trapped them in place offshore. On November 21, 1914, after sailing more than ten thousand miles from Norway to the Antarctic Ocean, the Endurance finally succumbed to the surrounding ice.
